Tottenham Hotspur Foundation's life-changing projects given further backing

Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has secured £100,000 in funding from players of People's Postcode Lottery to support its groundbreaking Community Development projects.

The funding will help the award-winning Foundation to continue using the unique appeal of the Club and its players to deliver creative, innovative and engaging programmes that improve social cohesion, build self-esteem and develop positive attitudes amongst young people.

The Kicks project has previously received £48,000 via the People’s Postcode Trust.  Projects like Kicks and Skills, delivered in partnership with Haringey Council and London Boxing Academy, get young people in some of the toughest areas of North London off the streets in the evenings and into positive sporting activities.

E18HTEEN, meanwhile, works with young people in care or care leavers who have been identified as Not in Education, Employment or Training, giving them a tailored programme to explore employment opportunities.

And new project OnSide will mentor 10-16 year olds experiencing difficulties preparing for adulthood for a period of 12 months.

Grant Cornwell MBE, Chief Executive Officer of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, believes that funding such as this is imperative to helping Tottenham Hotspur Foundation achieve its objectives, and said: “We would like to thank players of People’s Postcode Lottery for the funding towards our Community Development projects. We at Tottenham Hotspur Foundation believe this funding will go a long way towards helping us achieve our aim of improving social cohesion, developing the potential of our young people and creating safer communities.

“The Foundation runs a number of successful projects in the local area and we’re delighted that this fund will not only allow our existing projects to grow, it will also enable us to develop more targeted projects for the future, increasing our reach and helping to support young people in a range of engaging, constructive activities.”

This new funding will now take the total received by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation from People’s Postcode Lottery to date to an impressive £148,000.

Players have already supported the Foundation through People’s Postcode Trust with Kicks receiving £48,000 and we are thrilled about the continuation of this relationship.”

Haringey Council Leader, Claire Kober, said: “The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation does some excellent work supporting young people in Tottenham and Haringey – helping them to gain life skills and build their confidence and self-esteem. It’s great news that this extra funding will help the Foundation to expand that work and offer valuable opportunities to even more young people.”
