We are delighted to announce that Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has been shortlisted for the prestigious Beyond Sport Awards 2014 for Sport Team of the Year.
The Beyond Sport Awards shortlist, selected from over 350 entries and spanning more than 70 countries across the globe, represents the standout work being done to celebrate the use of sport for positive social change.
Tottenham Hotspur Foundation is committed to creating opportunities that change lives. Launched in 2006, the Foundation has since provided over 2.4 million life-changing opportunities for the local community through its sports, health, training and education programmes encouraging enterprise and innovation, promoting social cohesion and enhancing life skills.
Using the unique appeal of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and its players, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation successfully engages hard-to-reach groups within the local community on to its innovative programmes.
All Tottenham Hotspur Foundation activities are based on a belief that engagement in sport can result in far more than developing sports skills. It can harness a sense of mutual respect and trust, widen horizons, raise aspirations and provide opportunities to young people regardless of race, sex or age.
Grant Cornwell MBE, Chief Executive Officer, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “We are delighted that Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has been shortlisted for a Beyond Sport Award this year.
“Each week, we engage up to 8,000 people on our programmes. With support from our partners and working closely with local and national government, we are able to make positive impacts on the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our society through our projects.
“We are committed to delivering programmes that provide better access to sport, employment and education opportunities for all of our communities, and this award nomination is testament to this.”
In total, 33 out of the 350 entries will be invited to the Beyond Sport Summit 2014, taking place in Johannesburg from 28 to 30 October 2014.
The Summit will bring together the world of sport, business, government and community development, to focus on how sport can unlock the power and creativity of young people across the world, culminating in the announcement of the winning projects from all Beyond Sport Award categories.
