Toronto FC 2-3 Spurs - Mauricio's verdict

Thu 24 July 2014, 05:10|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino was pleased to secure a first win on Tour against Toronto FC on Wednesday night.

Erik Lamela netted twice as we controlled the first half only for the MLS side to strike back in the second half as goals from Andrew Wiedeman and Jordan Hamilton levelled it up at 2-2 at BMO Field.

We had the final word five minutes from time when Lewis Holtby won possession and found Andros Townsend, who fired into the top corner from the edge of the box for a fine winner.

There were further positives with the first pre-season appearances of Kyle Walker and Christian Eriksen and of course, a debut for our new signing Ben Davies.

“I’m very pleased because we had a very good performance and another 90 minutes to improve and learn our new style,” said Mauricio.

“We work hard in the training sessions and that’s what we need to show in the games. The result isn’t the most important thing, but how the squad improves.

“It was an also opportunity to play in front of our supporters in Toronto so yes, overall, I’m very happy.”

The third and final stop of the Tour takes us from Toronto to Chicago and a friendly against Chicago Fire at Toyota Park on Saturday.

“It’s a chance to play another game, to work more on our style and to improve again,” he added. “We’re all looking forward to Chicago.”
