Toni deserves big credit for Paulo - Mauricio

08 November 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino quickly turned the spotlight on goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez after Paulo Gazzaniga's fine debut against Palace.

Paulo stepped up after Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm were injured and delivered as we were pushed all the way by Palace on the way to a 1-0 win at Wembley Stadium, connected by EE.

The Argentinian stopper - born in the same town, Murphy, as Mauricio - denied Scott Dann in the first half and then Andros Townsend and Luka Milivojevic after the break. The pick, a low fingertip save to deny Townsend at the start of the second half. Heung-Min Son scored the only goal on 64 minutes.

"It was a great debut for Paulo, fantastic and he deserves full credit," said Mauricio. "It’s not easy to play in that circumstance and, for me, Toni Jimenez deserves big credit as well, our goalkeeping coach.

"To keep the third goalkeeper motivated when every week he has to go to the stand and then show that performance and that quality, not just Paulo, Toni deserves big, big credit.

"That made me very proud about my coaching staff. When we talk about the squad, the staff, coaching, medical, everyone, that is three points where we can congratulate everyone, real teamwork."
