Toner inches closer
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Ciaran Toner has taken another little step towards football’s big time.
The young midfielder was called into the first team squad for the first time this season for the trip to Bradford City.
It was just reward for the 19-year-old’s fine performances for Chris Hughton’s reserve team and further proof after Alton Thelwell and Ledley King’s emergence that if you do the business there, the Premiership could await.
So after being called into the squad, was Toner next hoping for a place on the bench and even his debut this season? “Hopefully that’s the way it will go,” he beamed. “A lot of times it doesn’t but certainly I would love to get a chance on the bench, hopefully this season.
“Who knows what will happen? I’ll just have to wait and see and try to keep playing well.
“It’s all about hard work and that little bit of luck. Darren Anderton’s suspended so that’s where my opportunity came from.
“Hopefully, as I’ve said before, if I can keep playing well in the reserves, which is my priority at the moment, then I can get another chance in the first team.”
The Northern Irish Under-21 international loved every minute of his trip to Valley Parade. He added: “It’s been a great weekend, brilliant. I got the call on Thursday night, we travelled on Friday and it was my first away trip. I’ve been in the first team squad twice for home games so it was a new experience and I’m glad it’s happened and hopefully they’ll be plenty more of them.”
