Ton up for Hugo

17 August 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris admitted he was left thinking more about the 2-2 draw than clocking up his 100th Premier League appearance for us against Stoke.

The goalkeeper returned from his pre-season wrist injury to captain the team at the Lane on Saturday.

Hugo was left on 99 Premier League appearances at the end of last season after a knee injury in March ended a run 57 straight starts. Indeed, he started 93 of 95 league games between November, 2012 and March, 2015.

But hitting the century mattered little to the French skipper after Stoke grabbed two late goals to take a share of the spoils after we’d controlled the first half and led 2-0.

“We were all disappointed after the game and I was thinking more about that than my 100th Premier League game,” said Hugo.

“We played so well for 70 minutes and that’s why it’s even more frustrating. We were 2-0 up and it was a big mistake from us not to get the three points from there.

“You always have to think about the next game and we have a week now to work hard and prepare for Leicester.”

Hugo is the 34th player to play 100 times for us in the Premier League. Darren Anderton tops the chart on 299 Premier League appearances.

The club’s record appearance-maker is legendary former skipper Steve Perryman, who played 854 times for us between 1969-1986.
