Tom up for the challenge against highly-rated Monaco

Tom Carroll is confident there won’t be a repeat of the scoreline from our last trip to Stade Louis II when we face a Monaco side with “Champions League pedigree” this evening (Thursday, October 1).
The central midfielder was a second half substitute when we crashed to a 5-2 defeat against the Ligue 1 side in a pre-season friendly back in 2013.
We meet Monaco again tonight with Europa League points at stake, with Tom insisting our players are in buoyant mood following last weekend’s fine victory over Manchester City on the domestic scene.
However, with the hosts having drawn with Anderlecht on matchday one, he says our opponents will be no pushovers as they go in search of their first win in Group J.
“Obviously last time we went to Monaco it wasn’t the best result, but we go there now off the back of a great result against City so the lads are feeling confident and we’re looking forward to it,” said Tom.
“Monaco will be a strong side, no doubt. They have lost a couple of players but I think they’re of Champions League pedigree along with Anderlecht, so a point between those two sides last time was probably a good one.
“Now, especially at home, Monaco will be looking to get their first win, but hopefully we can go there, put our style on the game and get the win ourselves.
“We’re playing well at the moment, moving the ball about nicely and I’m sure it will be a good game.”
