Tom praises supporters after replay triumph

Tom Carroll hailed our travelling fans as “superb” after Wednesday’s 2-0 win at Leicester City in our FA Cup third round replay.
The midfielder, who supplied Heung-Min Son with the pass from which the South Korean international opened the scoring, put in a full shift in central midfield alongside Nabil Bentaleb at the King Power Stadium as we booked our place in the fourth round of the world’s most famous cup competition.
Nacer Chadli was responsible for our second goal after the interval, with Tom full of admiration for our supporters on the night.
“Our away fans were superb and you could hear them throughout,” he said. “It’s great when they out-sing the home crowd and obviously it’s a big effort for them coming to Leicester on a freezing night, so we’re delighted to get the win for them.
“It was a good victory – I thought we played well in the first half and probably could have had a couple more going into the break. In the second half it was a different game really but we dealt with their long balls well, we didn’t keep the ball as much as we’d have liked but we dug out the result and caught them on the counter a few times.”
One of eight changes made to the starting line-up from last weekend’s 4-1 win over Sunderland in the Premier League, Tom felt the final score was evidence of how squad rotation can pay dividends and highlighted the desire of all the players to enjoy an extended run in the competition.
“We’ve got a good squad and when the gaffer does change it around, everyone is capable of filling in and doing a job for the side and tonight’s another example of that,” he said.
“For a lot of the home-grown boys, we’ve grown up watching the FA Cup, we know how special it is and you can tell that the lads really wanted to win tonight.
“Hopefully we can go far in the competition, although Colchester will make it difficult for us, for sure. I know a couple of the lads there and they’ve got some good players so it’ll be no walkover, but it’s a game that we’re capable of winning and we’ll be confident.”
