Togetherness so important – Hugo on Barcelona training camp

26 January 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris has spoken about our current squad in terms of a ‘family’ for a few years now and that feeling has only been reinforced by this week’s mid-season training camp in Barcelona.

The squad spent valuable time together on and off the pitch after flying out to Spain straight from our 2-2 draw at Manchester City on Saturday evening.

As assistant manager Jesus Perez explained to us, a change of scenery, change of routine and the chance to spend time together as a group of players away from the footballing environment were all part of the camp.

“It was a great experience to share all together,” said Hugo. “We all know the importance of the team and all the players inside the squad. We are a team and that makes us very strong. It’s not about individuals, it’s about team and we show that throughout the year on the pitch.

“That togetherness is always so important, to share time together outside football and on the pitch, of course, we also had some great sessions of work. It’s important to spend time together and to change routines, especially after the busy last few weeks.

“Now we get back to reality.”

That reality is an FA Cup fourth round tie at home to in-form Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Wycombe are in form, 16 matches unbeaten and after a slow start, have steadily climbed into the play-off positions in League Two.

Hugo added: “We have ambition in all competitions and it’s a great opportunity for some players who need to have time on the pitch, an opportunity maybe to rotate if the gaffer does that.

“It’s in front of a big crowd and it will be a serious performance, just like it was in the third round (a 2-0 win against Villa). We will try to keep our unbeaten run at home going as far as possible.”
