Tim's ready to rumble
English Barclays Premiership
Kasey Keller recalled what was probably the defining moment of the tense encounter with Liverpool and revealed that his double-quick reaction carried a dual purpose.
Deep into the second half, with Liverpool shooting towards an anxious Kop, the ball was bobbling around the edge of our area before Steven Gerrard to control and blasted the ball goalwards.
The vast majority of the 43,778 crowd packed into Anfield were ready to celebrate before Kasey's reactions astounded onlookers and Liverpool players alike. He not only got a firm hand to the ball but, with the home strikers lurking for the rebound, managed to push it out to the left of the area and buy his defence more time to clear.
"He smacked it and you just try and do anything to keep it from going in," reflected Kasey, who gives credit to Rohan Ricketts for tracking back to help out on the line. "First of all you try to save it, second you try to put it somewhere where it will help your team out rebound-wise. I was fortunate enough to get a hand to it and push it wide and kind of scrambled back into the goal.
"It was nice to see Rohan Ricketts in my goal with me for that rebound - that is what it is about, guys fighting for one another for the common good. That is what you saw here and what you've seen all season.
"It was fantastic and that is the way is has been going. Tremendous effort from everyone on the field and good organisation. Little things, tackles were made when they needed to be made, headers went in, covering was done and when I needed to make a save I made it."
