Ticking over nicely

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

John Gorman has explained the theory behind our pre-season fitness top up at Five Lakes Hotel, Golf, Country Club and Spa in Essex.

The boys have been working hard at the retreat in the Essex countryside with three training sessions a day.

Assistant boss John said: "You can't afford to go seven, eight weeks without doing anything because if you did, it would mean starting off very low key and doing a long, long build up to the season.

"This way you can get into games that much quicker. Last season we started off well but finished poorly and we're looking into every aspect of it."

Of course, everything is geared towards our first game on August 16.

"This is a very important time for us," added John. "We did it last season as well at La Manga but we felt this year with one or two of the boys away on internationals that we'd go nearer to home.

"We had the three nights at Fives Lakes and now two days at the training ground, making sure we top up the lads fitness from last season.

"It's been a month now since the end of the season and it's important that they are not too much out of shape and most of them have kept themselves ticking over anyway.

"We've had a good few days, started nice and steady and built up over the week.

"By the end of the week they'll have a good bit of work under their belts and that will stand them in great stead for pre-season.

"We have our first friendly within a week of coming back and we have to make sure we're ready to start. These few days will just top the lads up. The international boys will have a month away but they've trained right through anyway."
