Three's company for Ziege
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Christian Ziege said he particularly enjoyed the added involvement of featuring in a three-man midfield against Newcastle on Sunday.
The German leftie - playing his first game since the beginning of February - formed a compact uncompromising trio with Michael Brown and Ledley King, giving the likes of Gary Speed and Jermaine Jenas little room to operate while allowing Robbie Keane to play off the front two in a change to the usual formation.
Christian says the change of tactics enabled him to get much more on the ball and join in the attacking movements.
"It was magnificent - playing a major part of the game and keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win against Newcastle," he reflected back at Spurs Lodge. "They are a strong team, they had a shout in the game and it was a lucky own goal, but it was a good win for us.
"I've said it in the past that I like to be more involved. Playing on the left of a three means I am closer to the centre and, at the same time, I get the ball a lot more and it suits me more from my point of view.
"I was happy to get the chance to play there and I think I proved it was a good decision," he added, agreeing that playing as an orthodox left back can be restrictive for him.
"Playing as a defender means I can't go forward as much as I like to. I can play in that position if needed but, to get the best out of me, I need to be more involved in the game."
