Three games in six days showed fitness levels -Jan

10 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Jan Vertonghen paid tribute to the team’s fitness levels after a gruelling three games in six days ended with a fine performance in the Sunday’s North London derby draw at Arsenal.

It could have been better at the Emirates as we missed a host of chances during a purple patch in the second half to add to Harry Kane’s opener before Arsenal - who also had chances - levelled it 13 minutes from time.

“After leading for so long we feel like it is two points lost,” summed-up Jan, who remains ever-present in the Premier League with Toby Alderweireld, Kyle Walker and Harry.

“We were on top for the majority of the game but Arsenal are a good team and they had some chances as well so I think we will take the draw.

“We’re certainly happy with the performance. Three games in six days is very tough but I think we are fit enough to face these schedules, we are a very physically strong team and we showed that again. That’s a great compliment to everyone in the squad.

“It's been a very tough week but a very positive week with three good results and we are happy with how it went.  Everyone has put a huge amount of effort in.”

Jan, Toby and Mousa Dembele have now hooked-up with Belgium for friendlies against Italy and Spain. Fellow Belgian Nacer Chadli continues to recover from an ankle injury.
