Theo's call to fans

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Reserve boss Theo Foley is urging fans to come out and take a look at his young side as they tackle Arsenal in the first part of a local double header at the Lane on Wednesday night.

Kick-off is a 7pm (admission free) and Theo does not feel that fans will be disappointed by taking a peek into the club’s future.

Since Theo took sole charge following the changes made by Glenn on his arrival, the reserves have hardly put a foot wrong and are unbeaten (won three, drawn one) despite playing what, for the most part, amounts to a youth side.

"I’d like a lot of people to come along and watch the boys play because there is a lot of fine young players who’ve done very well of late," purred Theo.

"It will be nice for people to come along and see the boys playing at White Hart Lane and they are looking forward to it. Some of them might have to play the day before (for the under-19s at Bristol City), which is a bit of a shame, but there you go.

"Obviously all the young lads have done well of late playing in the team and Arsenal will be a good test and are my old club. For obvious reasons, it depends what players Arsene Wenger will allow to play in the game, but, none the less, I think it will be a good game."

The playing staff is slightly on the thin side at the moment due to a depleted first team and Academy commitments, and Theo will be hoping that his key under-19 players come through unscathed at Bristol City. Add the fact that the under-17s have a Academy League quarter-final play-off at West Ham on Saturday and it is an exciting time to be a young player at Spurs Lodge these days.

"At this time of year there is loads of games, loads of Academy games, and the boys have to play in them as well as playing for me," said Theo, who had four players to work with in training on Monday.

"I’ll have more of the players tomorrow apart from the ones going to Bristol, but you can’t use that as an excuse, you’ve just got to get on and do it, it’s as simple as that, otherwise you are just making excuses all the time."

So what about the excellent sequence of recent results?

"It is a good run, and it’s nice that we’ve had a good run to finish the season, but, it’s like everything else in life, it just goes and goes as it does and that’s it — I’m just pleased for the young players.

"Chris has worked early on with them, along with myself, and a lot of them have gone in the first team, so it’s good all the way round."
