Theo rues costly mistakes
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Theo Foley walked out of Highbury a disappointed man but, typically, trying to put on a brave face after his young reserve side’s 4-0 defeat.
Arsenal, fielding the likes of Silvhino, Ray Parlour and Dennis Bergkamp, were clinical in front of goal and, although we missed chance after chance, deserved their victory.
Boss Theo reflected: "I was very disappointed in the manner of which we gave the goals away.
"We knew that Arsenal would have a few top players out and outgun us, for want of a better word, but the second goal was a turning point for us.
"That was a very poor goal, a comical goal and it didn’t help us because they didn’t need any help. The third goal was a poor goal as well because we didn’t put a challenge in.
"We missed four or five chances but I’ve always said that you can’t moan at people when they miss chances — that is part of the learning process.
"I was disappointed with a few of the players who have done really well for me, but that was a poor performance.
"In truth, they were just a bit too strong and we knew that would be the case from the start. You always felt that they had strength in depth."
Still, with nine of the 11 players aged 21 or under, it was more experience for our young guns at Highbury.
"It’s all about learning for these boys," added Theo. "I said to them in the dressing room that I’d never met anyone in my footballing life who has achieved greatness without working hard.
"If we’d have scored it might have made a difference but I’m disappointed for them, not myself, because they’ve done well for me and I’ve no real complaints.
"I’ve enjoyed it but I’m just disappointed that we came here, against my old club, and didn’t do very well."
The reserves final match is against Coventry City at the Lane next Tuesday, May 15, (7pm).
