The right combination

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Les Ferdinand feels that the combination of two good footballing teams will make for an entertaining contest between Manchester City and Spurs.

City, like most Kevin Keegan teams, receive many plaudits for their attacking play. Les hopes that our own brand of attractive football will come out on top on the night.

"It will be a good entertaining game because we play good football, they play good stuff and you hope the combination comes together and it is an exciting game - with us coming out on top."

Les has kept a close eye on the progress of the club managed by his old Newcastle boss Keegan this season.

"They had a good start and I think they carried on from where they left off last season. They came in and started playing the sort of football that everybody wanted to watch.

"They went through a sticky patch and I think he realised they needed to work on a few other things. The all-out attack wasn't working for him and he's tinkered with his team a little bit.

"He's made them more stable and, to be fair, it's worked for him - they've picked up a few results."

Meanwhile, Les believes Keegan will plot a slightly different route to success at Manchester City than he did at Newcastle.

Les, who played for the now City boss during his Newcastle days, feels that, while the Keegan emphasis will always be on good attacking football, fiscal realities might prevent a repeat of his free-spending days in the North East.

"I think it is going to be a slightly different course," remarked Les. "When I went to Newcastle there was a lot of money in football and he was able to bring in big players that were able to produce the goods for him.

"Nowadays, things have slowed down a bit on that front and I'm not sure they will hit the dizzy heights that Newcastle did.

"It might be a slower process but, eventually, I think he will get Man City to where they want to be."

None the less, Keegan was one of the busier managers during the summer months in bolstering his squad for the new season. Nicolas Anelka was his major signing, while he also secured the services of Peter Schmeichel.

"He has been," agreed Les. "I suppose he's had to spend what he has to get them to the position they are in right now. I think it is now a process of kicking on from there and I think that is what he'd like to do."
