The record breakers?

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

George Graham’s team can go into the Spurs’ record books against Leeds United on Saturday.

If we manage to keep a clean sheet against David O’Leary’s men it will be the first time in the club’s history that we have managed to keep six successive clean sheets in the league.

But another clean sheet will not, for the time being, trouble the record for the amount of minutes without conceding a goal.

That honour is currently held at 602 minutes by Gerry Francis’ team in 1995-96 when, after Dennis Bergkamp scored after 15 minutes of our 2-1 derby win on November 18, 1995, we didn’t concede again until Bolton’s Scott Green netted in the 77th minute of a 2-2 draw on December 23.

We last conceded in the Premiership in the 49th minute of our 4-2 win against Newcastle back on January 2, a run currently standing at 491 minutes.

Boss George reflected: “You have to have a good foundation and I think recently we’ve been stronger at the back. That’s with youngsters as well like Gary Doherty and Ledley King. There are a lot of plusses at the club.

“I’ve usually started with the defence at the clubs I’ve been with. It’s no surprise that the first thing you do is teach the boys how not to lose. Then you build from there.

“A month ago we were taking criticism for 0-0’s, looking back now perhaps that was a platform for the goals we’ve scored and the wins we’ve achieved.

“We were forced into it because we only had one fit striker in Rebrov. We had to keep clean sheets but now we’re getting the beauty of it.

“We’re getting players back and we’re starting to build from the back. We’re not just keeping clean sheets but coming out as well. The back three are all very comfortable on the ball and creating from the back.”
