The pundit: Mark Schwarzer on 'classy' Spurs

18 April 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Mark Schwarzer was in the pundit's chair for BBC Radio Five Live's coverage of our win against Bournemouth on Saturday - here are his thoughts on the performance...

- Played over 750 matches for likes of Middlesbrough, Fulham, Chelsea, Leicester – 1990-2016
- League Cup winner at Boro in 2004
- Back-up goalkeeper in title-winning seasons at Chelsea and Leicester
- Australia’s most capped player – 109
- Played at 2006 and 2010 World Cip Finals
- Regular pundit for BBC Five Live and TalkSport

Spurs ‘always asking questions’

Mark: “I thought Spurs were impressive from start to finish. They had the right application and right mindset from the beginning. They didn’t give Bournemouth a chance in the game and put them under pressure right from the off. Spurs posed a lot of questions throughout and showed Bournemouth early that they had the pace to get in behind with a couple of long balls and then at the same time, players were always looking to drop in short to receive the ball then turn and run. Bournemouth were continuously having to think ‘do I go in behind?’ or ‘do I come short?’ because Spurs were always asking questions.”

‘Class all over the pitch’

Mark: “The one thing I’d say is that Spurs weren’t perhaps as clinical as they could be. I could see Mauricio Pochettino getting a bit frustrated at times on the touchline and I can understand that, because there were times in the game where the team was wasteful in front of goal. However, having said that, 4-0 is still a very convincing scoreline. Spurs have class all over the pitch and they are the team in form at the moment --seven wins on the trot in the Premier League is awesome and to not have lost a game at White Hart Lane so far this season is also a formidable record.”
