The pundit - Kevin Kilbane: 'I feel there is even more to come from this Spurs team'

Continuing our feature when we ask pundits for their opinions on our matches - Kevin Kilbane provided expert analysis for BBC Five Live for Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final against Millwall and it's fair to say the Republic of Ireland legend was impressed with the depth of the squad after our 6-0 victory...

'Spurs are in a great position'

Kevin: "Kieran Trippier is a player I really like. I’ve seen him develop since his move from Manchester City to Burnley, I’ve seen him develop again since he’s come to Spurs and the difficulty from his point of view is that he’s got such a good player in Kyle Walker ahead of him. That’s maybe the thing you look at. I’ve always felt over the last 20 years that they’ve probably had six or seven players in a side where you think ‘yes, excellent players’, I’m talking game-changers but within the squad now they’ve got 15 or 16 players that can come in like that. Harry Winks today, superb in coming in, Son scoring a hat-trick, he’s not necessarily a regular starter, Sissoko has come on, he’s made an impact as well, it was nice to see Janssen scoring from open play for the first time so you look at Spurs and they are in a great position."

'I felt for Millwall at times'

Kevin: "The team that was selected against Millwall suggested to me that ‘yes, we’re going to go and put this to bed early’ and that was certainly the case. It was always going to be difficult for Millwall. I felt for Millwall at times, trying to stop the movement of Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son initially off Harry Kane, then with Christian Eriksen coming on, he of course made a difference, Winks was dominating, I thought Trippier again was excellent down the right-hand side so overall there were a lot of plusses but the one negative is the Harry Kane injury. I think we’ve all got our fingers crossed that it’s not too serious."

'Every player knows his role'

Kevin: "The players all know exactly what Mauricio Pochettino wants from them and when you come and watch Tottenham, you can see the work that’s been done on the training ground. Everyone knows their role and if you’re not working hard, you’re not getting in the side – it’s as simple as that here. That’s the type of manager that I would like to have played for – you know exactly where you stand with him."

'Even more to come'

Kevin: "I was here when Spurs played against West Ham - I don’t actually think they played that well that day (we won 3-2 thanks to two late goals) - and I was here when they played against West Brom when it was as complete a performance as you’re ever going to see from any side, so I do love it here, I love coming to the ground and watching them play and the way that they’re playing now, you do feel as though there’s probably even more to come from this Tottenham side. Certainly since I’ve started doing what I’m doing now you feel as though this season they’ve progressed again and they’re in a great position to kick on over the next few seasons, particularly with the new stadium on the way."
