The Pleat verdict
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Back at the training ground, David Pleat offered his considered view on the welcome weekend win over Blackburn Rovers at the Lane.
I THOUGHT IT was a good game and we tried to pass the ball well. We were a sharp side and a quicker side, Jamie Redknapp did a good job holding us together and we had a very good spell in the first half.
We had a little dodgy spell in the second period, like we had a Villa just after half-time and we shouldn't have that. Overall I thought we were the better side.
It is easy to forget that Mauricio Taricco came off very early and Christian Ziege did very well at left back, where people think he is only a wing-back.
We pushed forward and, although Jermain Defoe has taken a lot of the plaudits, I thought Stephen Kelly - in his fourth successive game - did a good steady job for us.
He probably didn't expect to play as it was thought that Stephen Carr would have been okay after his injury, but Stephen did well and got another game under his belt.
For me that is so important and it is not easy for the younger element of the side. Ledley King and Anthony Gardner were a solid combination, although Anthony had his shaky moments, and they were a big plus for us.
Up front, I think we made the changes at the right time because we needed that little bit of height when balls were coming into the box towards the end and Fredi Kanoute gave us a little more there and was quite lively.
The initial front pairing did well - Robbie Keane and Defoe - and overall I was very satisfied with the team performance.
Going ahead in a game, of course, does help the confidence in any game because it takes that little bit of pressure off. It is hard when you are chasing a game, going in front breeds confidence and that is a fact of life.
