'The players have been immense...'
Andre Villas-Boas took a quick reflection on the season and insisted: “The players have been immense.”
Sunday’s 1-0 win against Sunderland took us to a club record 72 points in the Premier League.
However, Arsenal’s victory at Newcastle meant the Gunners held on to fourth place.
Gareth Bale’s stunning late strike secured another maximum haul at the Lane on Sunday and meant we completed the Premier League campaign with just two defeats in our final 22 matches, stretching back to December.
The 72-point haul toppled the 70 points amassed in the 2009-10 season.
“The players have been absolutely immense in how willing they were to achieve our objective,” said Andre.
“With this amount of points, what can you learn is that the level (in the Premier League) has gone up, and it will go up again next season because you expect Liverpool to be in the mix too.
“We have to continue to raise the bar.
“We’ve given a good run to Arsenal and Chelsea, teams who play for the title. We’re not very far away from them, so let’s take this lesson into the future and make it better next time.”
