The low down on Toon

English Barclays Premiership

Alan Shearer was off the England squad sheet for the first time in years on Thursday - now we've got to keep him off the scoresheet.

Newcastle's L15m striker retired from international football after the European Championships in the summer. The former England skipper is concentrating on his Premiership football but has yet to score so far this season.

Big summer signing Carl Cort has scored but the L7m capture from Wimbledon may miss the game with a hamstring injury sustained after bagging that first goal against Derby on Tuesday.

Argentinian Daniel Cordone also marked his home debut with a goal in the 3-2 win against Derby and Stephen Glass completed the scoring with a delightful curler. The Scottish international came off the bench to score that goal and that may have won him a starting place against us.

Republic of Ireland star Shay Given has taken over the goalkeeper's jersey again from Steve Harper and is likely to line-up behind Warren Barton, Didier Domi, Laurent Charvet and Alain Goma. Charvet looks set to replace Nikos Dabizes, injured on Tuesday, with Marcelino also out with a damaged finger.

The midfield has a familiar look to it. Gary Speed continues to be one of the most dynamic midfielders around but the Welsh international will not be partnered by Rob Lee, who has a calf problem.

Kieron Dyer, back in the England squad on Thursday, has made a promising start to the season while Peruvian winger Nolberto Solano provides the ammunition for Shearer. Northern Ireland defender Aaron Hughes is also likely to feature but Kevin Gallacher has a thigh problem.

You can watch the Newcastle match live at White Hart Lane on Saturday. It will be shown on the Jumbotron and admission is L5 for adults and FREE for children (under 16s) and OAPs.
