The Jol Verdict

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

After a little bit of time to ponder over the fine performance against Aston Villa, Martin Jol offers his considered verdict on the five-star show...

I THINK EVERYBODY was on top of their game against Aston Villa - afterwards you can conclude that. We played ever so well but, on the other hand, maybe we were a bit fortunate with the penalty situation. I have seen it a couple of times now and still think it wasn't a foul, but the referee could have given it and we were a bit lucky.

We scored straight from that with the kick from Paul Robinson and Fredi Kanoute did well. People have said there was a hand ball as well but everyone who knows Fredi knows how good he is at receiving balls and he does it every game.

As I said, I was pleased with the lads, our attitude and approach was good and that is what you need in a crucial game - and this was a crucial game. Aston Villa are one of the best footballing teams with good skill.

We went 3-0 up and that is what you wish for. It went to 3-1 and you worry a bit, we dropped off then scored the fourth and fifth - we enjoyed it.

The boys are holding up well at this stage of the season as we have played quite a few games with the two quarter-final cup runs. The strange thing is, when we play three games in a week we tend to do well.

When you play as many games as we have I don't think it is a problem - you want to play 60 or 70 games a year. This would mean we are having success so we are not complaining about about too many games.

It is exciting to still have something to play for with two games to go, it means we are doing well and competing for a European spot. I am very proud of the lads, we have had injuries to the likes of Pedro Mendes, Michael Brown, Noe Pamarot, Thimothee Atouba, Noureddine Naybet, Anthony Gardner and nobody is complaining about it because the other guys are playing well.

We have had our problems, but still look like a team who are gelling together and it is a wonderful thing.
