The Jol verdict
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Head Coach Martin Jol has had a couple of days to think over Saturday's win against Portsmouth and gives us his considered verdict.
Mido stole the show with a two-goal debut and Robbie Keane secured the points with a lovely late goal in the 3-1 win in the Premier League encounter.
Back at Spurs Lodge, Martin reflected: "We couldn't talk about it too much before the game but we had a worry in the morning over Mido and Naybet. We did late tests and made the decision to play them. It was a worry but, on the other hand, we had Andy Reid making his debut and I was pleased about that because Reto Ziegler was out. With Anthony Gardner out with a broken nose I was very happy Naybet took the responsibility and played.
"We made a change at full-back because I wanted to attack down the left flank and maybe Thimothee Atouba is more of an attacking player than Erik Edman. We made changes and you never know before how it will work out.
"I was very pleased afterwards because I thought we played well and the only negative thing was them scoring off a corner. We were playing well and it was a bit of a blow to us, but we picked it up and Mido scored off a great cross from Simon Davies. Simon played his fourth game in 12 days and is getting better and better.
"I hadn't seen much of Simon before and now I know what people meant when they told me about him. He is looking fitter, he is taking people on and linking up well with Stephen Kelly. He is doing what I want from him, he is going in-field as well as wide.
"Overall, I was very pleased with the win, it was not an easy game and we had to work very hard for it.
"We have had a few problems with injuries and that is why we had an indifferent spell but, if we get everyone on board, we will get better and better. We must live up to expectations but we have a young squad and must build, learn and improve all the time.
"The prospects of the club are very good and I think we are doing pretty well."
