The Jol verdict

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Back at Spurs Lodge and preparing for West Brom, Head Coach Martin Jol took a reflective view of Saturday's 2-2 draw at Anfield...

LIVERPOOL played in a certain system that we haven't played against before - a 3-4-3 with two out of the four wide, so they tried to attack us with six players and that was a bit different. We played well in midfield and perhaps we could have scored more - Kanoute had a header and another good chance over the bar, Simon Davies forced a good save, Andy Reid had a chance.

It was an unbelievable shot from Erik Edman. It's a long time since I saw a player score from 38, 39 yards. Erik is a solid defender, is proving that every week and he's scored a goal and that's something we lack, a bit of goal productivity from midfield and the back. The goal was good for us, Liverpool were on a high after Juve and we wanted to silence the crowd and we did that a bit. That was pleasing.

Michael Dawson came through his debut well and will be a big asset for us in the future. He'd trained with us for a couple of weeks but the only thing was he hadn't even played for the reserves, so that was a concern because you want to see them come through a game. It was evidence for us and for Michael that he could play at this level because he came from the Championship. One swallow doesn't make a summer but I believe in him and I told him it was better for him to make his debut in a game like Liverpool away.

I think we've learned a lot from that game. Overall, it's a good result at Anfield but then again, when you go to Birmingham and go ahead, if you need the points you need to win. We didn't. That's the thing this season, we are on the fringe of doing things. We should have a couple more points but on the other hand, we are still in the race for European football, so that's the big bonus of the season. There are only five games left and we could still do something, so that's a big positive for me.
