WE PUT ON another good show at Anfield last Saturday, but the outcome was very disappointing for us all. In our progress, which has obviously been good and away from home where we have done well, we will obviously be judged on how we perform as a side.
The next step is going to places like Anfield and performing like we did but coming away with a result and, of course, a draw is a result. It was disappointing, particularly with the way we played and, on chances, we were very much a match for them. They were certainly no better than we were.
You can't always cater for things that happen in games - like a long-range goal or a penalty. The margin between success and failure is a particularly narrow one.
Michael Owen, with the ability that he's got, produced something for them which resulted in a penalty. You also got to say that the quality of their first goal was very, very good. We evaluated the game, as always, and there are things we could have done better, but you can't take away the fact that Murphy's goal was a marvellous strike.
The margins are tight and the next stage is definitely turning good performances, but defeats, into points at these places.
A few people have commented to me on the recent performances of Dean Richards and I have to agree with them when they say he has been on top form.
In the last six games he has been absolutely outstanding. He has been something of an unsung hero, but I think that is Dean's nature.
For some reason, when the topic of the England team comes up he is never mentioned. Probably, that takes a little bit of pressure off him. I would say that in the last six games he has been as good as anybody around.
We have another tough assignment on Sunday when Chelsea visit the Lane - it is yet another exciting test for us.
It is a home game for us with a little bit more added to it because of the experiences we've had with Chelsea. They have, in the past, had a good record at White Hart Lane.
These sort of records are there to be broken and this one was in quite emphatic style last season. We see no reason at all why we can't take it a step further and win this game.
They are having a good run and are certainly a very good side. They have emerged from a blip and, if you look at the quality in their squad, even if they have a bad period they are still going to be up there somewhere.
We will have to play well to win on Sunday. We are home though, and our record is good apart from the massive blip against Middlesbrough. Our performances have got better as the season has gone on and we have to carry that on into the Chelsea game if we are to get a result.
There is a bit of added pressure on us to stay in the leading pack after not collecting anything from Anfield, but that is what we want.
There is no way that you can be up in the top five or six without having that pressure each week - it comes with being in that territory.
The pressure that comes with it is a pressure that we want. We would certainly rather have the pressure that comes with trying to remain in that top six than the pressure of being in a lower position desperate to get points to push further up.
It is a pressure that we want - and one we expect with being in this position.
