THE TEAM PERFORMED in a very positive manner at Old Trafford under difficult circumstances - given the injuries we have suffered and the fact that a couple of players had to play in unfamiliar positions.
If you look at the amount of injuries that we had going into the game, one thing we haven't done is talk about it too much and have just got on with it. If we hadn't have had the start we've had, possibly it would have been spoken about a bit more.
Of course, it was difficult going into a game of that magnitude, but it just goes to show the resolve, spirit and determination that we've got in the squad.
We showed a marvellous discipline and kept our shape particularly well on the day, but I would have to say that they had the better chances overall - apart from Dean Richards' one, which was the best chance.
You get a feel while you're out there of how the game is going and there are years when we've been at United and you can see the flow of game emerging and are almost waiting for something to happen - because they are that good.
But I must admit on Saturday there was a wonderful feeling that we could hold out and possibly nick something.
People often ask how difficult it is to prepare a side when you have to cope with so many players not being available for selection.
It certainly makes it easier, for instance, if, at the start of the week you roughly know what your team is going to be - or you know for sure which players are going to be available.
The difficulty is always when you're waiting on players on the Thursday or Friday. If you know which players, whoever they are, are fit and ready at the start of the week it does make it easier.
It also makes it easier if you've got the spirit that we have - certainly at the moment - and the start that we've had. What you are getting is players going into games, going to United and believing that we can get something.
That helps! Plus the likes of Simon Davies who played at right back and Steffen Iversen on the right side of midfield - they did ever so well. It is knowing and having the belief that they are good players and can play in those positions.
Middlesbrough are next up for us at the Lane and it won't be easy. I think this is par for the course for every game this season.
The longer the home run goes, and we've obviously got maximum points from it so far, people will always be looking to topple us. Middlesbrough will be thinking that this is an opportunity to turn the tide.
It is about preparation going into every single game - be it Manchester United or Middlesbrough. It is just as important this week, especially as we are at home.
People say that to do well you must pick up a certain amount of points at home and it's what you get away from home that counts. This is an opportunity to keep our home run going and to retain the confidence and morale that we have got in the side.
Middlesbrough are a strong team, I've got no doubts about that and they will have a good season. If I look at the players they drafted in during the summer, they have recruited very well.
Sometimes you get that one spark and, of course, Maccarone has come and scored goals to give everybody there a lift.
It will be nothing less than a very difficult game for us and we will have to play well to win.
We know there is more to come from us though, each game is a tactical game and we need to get it right. I think Middlesbrough are a good solid side away from home and make it hard for the opposition.
We might have to be patient. We can't afford to go into it thinking we can throw bodies forward and expect not to get caught. We have to get it right on the day.
