The Hughton View

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Since my last time of writing I have attended a game that is well worth a mention - our Academy under-18 side's 3-1 victory over Portsmouth in the FA Youth Cup.

Myself and Glenn travelled to Fratton Park for the game and, I have to say that, it was not just the result that was pleasing - the performance was very good. It was particularly pleasing seeing the reaction from the boys after conceding a goal in the first couple of minutes.

You felt that once we got the first goal we would go on and get more, such was the level of the performance. We were delighted to see the style and manner with which they went about their work.

If we're trying to produce good players who are good passers and can cope with the tactical side of the game - it is important that we see that at youth level. It is probably true that in the Youth Cup the result is more important than the performance - but it was good to see us win it in that way.

The FA Cup draw took place on Sunday afternoon shortly before our game with West Brom and we were paired with Southampton with the game taking place at St Mary's.

It will be a very tough game. At this stage in the draw you hope to get a home draw and avoid the Premiership sides - we got neither.

They've got a tremendous record at home and we know what a difficult game it is going to be. If we don't we will find out a few days before when we play them in the league.

To progress in a cup competition you have got to come through very difficult games. This draw just means we have got one to start off with.

Southampton are having a very good run at the moment but, even if they weren't, they are always a formidable side at home. You want to be in good form going into cup games and we just hope that, by the time it comes around, we've got a bit more of an edge than they have and can show it out on the pitch.

It was a good result for us against West Brom on Sunday. Some home games this season we haven't played as well as last season or as we'd have liked. We came away having won the game and there is certainly some credit to be drawn from that.

We would like to play well every single game and play a good passing game - sometimes you can't do that. Also, sometimes, you've got to give the opposition credit and I have to say West Brom came with a very offensive game and caught us a little bit by surprise.

We still had enough quality to win the game.

The return with Arsenal is next for us on Sunday and it seems every week that we are approaching a big game.

We can't argue that we don't know enough about them. It's on the day, and if we can produce a performance like against Leeds then we've got a very good chance of winning the game.

There is pride at stake, the game is at home and we've got to be able to use that to our advantage.

It is not just about being against Arsenal, it is the chance for us to extend our unbeaten run and try and progress our season from seventh.

This game following on quickly from the encounter Highbury is not such a big issue. You go out with a gameplan designed to beat them. I think with regards to the enthusiasm and desire to win the game it is hard to do too much about that.

You want them to have it. Sometimes there is not a lot of composure in these type of games - that is the nature of it.

Ideally you want a passionate, physical performance, but with enough composure to win the game.
