The Hughton View

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

We had a great day on Sunday with our convincing victory over Leeds. It was not just the result it was the performance, which I felt was a good display.

We did enough in the first half period to give ourselves a cushion, the second half was always going to be more difficult with them being behind. They pushed onto to us a bit and went with three up front - so the second half was more about taking a bit of the sting out of the game.

It was a good result and hopefully it will set us on our way towards gathering more positive results in the near future.

The week in-between the disappointment at Highbury and our game with Leeds was always going to be vital. As I said last week, it was important that the players didn't get too down after the Arsenal result as that would have affected our ability to bounce back.

The fact that we were at home against a good side added to it a bit and gave us a sense of anticipation. We were all very much aware coming into the game that, not only had results been going against us, we probably under-performed too. The Arsenal game was slightly different because of the sending-off.

Certainly in the Burnley and Sunderland games our performances weren't of the standard that we had set. We were ready for the next opportunity to put it right, we did have a good week's training and were very focused building up to the game and I think that showed on Sunday.

We face our first encounter with one of the promoted sides on Saturday when we travel to Birmingham. They are a side that also picked up a wonderful result at the weekend by beating Sunderland and they might look at the fact that we didn't manage that in their team talk.

They are not a top six or seven side and we know it is a winnable game, but they are a side that has had a decent run. It is never easy going away from home to any side and I expect no different on Saturday.

I saw Birmingham play live a few weeks ago and, from the games I've seen, they mostly play a 4-4-2. I think they've been fortunate in their last six or seven games in that they haven't had to change the side dramatically. They've had the odd player out, but the nucleus of their team has remained the same for a while.

That is probably a plus for them and they would possibly say that solidness and consistency of selection has got them where they are at this stage of the season.

If I look at Birmingham's quality they have got two players up front - Clinton Morrison and Stern John - who are both very good mobile players who, on their day, can score goals and certainly cause problems.

Lazaridis on the left is a classic, out-and-out old style winger and, on a good day, he can get to the line to provide the crosses that lead to goals.

I think they have got a solid look in the middle of the park with Savage and Cisse, with Devlin out on the right.

While they are a side that works hard they have got quality, enough of it to win games, which, of course, they have done.

Robbie Savage always tends to attract a lot of attention when he plays against Spurs and we must not react to that. He is just one of 11 very good players we are up against and his midfield partner Cisse is just as effective.

He had a very good World Cup for Senegal, works up and down, has a very good work ethic and the crowd love him.

There is going to be a crackling atmosphere at St Andrews for the game and I think any side going there this season is going to face that. Similar to Man City, every game is a massive game. Both teams have spent time outside of the top flight - every game at either ground now is going to have a special atmosphere.

I think that is part of the reason why they have done well.
