The great achiever

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

David Ginola said arriving back at White Hart Lane filled him with a feeling of achievement and described his reception as 'amazing'.

Ginola dazzled the Lane faithful for three years before leaving for Aston Villa in 2000 and he hinted at regret that his spell wasn't longer.

"It was a pleasure - fantastic!" he reacted on leaving the pitch after 57 minutes against DC United. "Sometimes I think I should have stayed for another couple of years and it was just fantastic to play here again.

"I always got an amazing reception here. When I was playing, of course, but also when I left and came back with Aston Villa. A great feeling.

"You want to give back. Every game I played for Tottenham Hotspur I always played 100 per cent to please them."

David explains that, while he cannot operate at full throttle at the moment, he feels that with a few weeks intensive training he could still play at the highest level.

"I don't have the fitness at the moment to do the things I want to do but, you know, give me a few weeks with a fitness coach and I can assure you that I could play again.

"You can't take away the talent and the skill. Of course, physically, when you reach 36 you are not running as fast or for as long as when you are 20. But the passion is still there.

"I'm having a great time in the south of France and I'm enjoying things. I've been away for 17 years and I am now close to my family, very close. I can think about the past and know I've done something good in my life and now I can just enjoy myself.

"But you always want to play - it is what you dream of since the age of six. You can't switch off the lights."

Asked for a single special moment from his time at the Lane, David couldn't pinpoint one and reasoned that the overall feeling of achievement is greater.

"When I got out of my car in the car park I had a feeling of achieving something. I didn't have this feeling for many years of my career - but I have here."
