The Final Countdown - Ziege seeking happy return

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Christian Ziege is likely to be chasing a second successive Worthington Cup winners' medal on Sunday afternoon.

It has slipped a few memories that Christian was a member of the Liverpool side that defeated Birmingham on penalties in Cardiff last season in the first final to be played at the Millennium Stadium.

"Yes I did," recalled Christian, who burst back onto the scene on Sunday against Tranmere with all his usual panache. "I have just good memories. Cardiff is a fantastic stadium, from my point of view one of the best in the world I have seen - and I have played in a lot of stadiums.

"It was fantastic, with the people in the stadium from both sides. It was a great final, we had 90 minutes, played the overtime and finally had the penalties.

"I think everybody wanted to see that in the final. Whether we were lucky or a little bit better I don't know, but we won it on a penalty shootout.

"I took a penalty and I won't forget it - it was a really good one!"

It certainly was, stuck high into the top right hand corner. Liverpool fans must have have felt they couldn't lose when the game came down to the lottery of a shootout - after all, they did have three Germans in the side.

"And one missed!" laughed Christian on the fact that Didi Hamman did not uphold his nation's penalty taking reputation.

"It was what we said as well. We said we've got three Germans so don't worry - and the first German took a penalty and missed."

However, Christian assures us, it is not the scoring, it is having a German in the side that counts.

"But it is not the missing. It is that with Germans in the team with penalties you can't lose."

Christian has no fears over the surface at the Millennium Stadium, "I think the pitch was excellent, no problem at all" and it hardly did Liverpool any harm during their season of cup exploits. And it is not lost on the stylish wing-back that a move to Spurs has only enhanced his medal-winning potential.

"If I'm thinking over the last years, most teams I have gone to have won something. I went to European finals, I went to cup finals, won championships and it seems to me that maybe I am lucky to always make the right choice.

"It is the biggest things you can have to play finals and win cups. I'd like to do it again in an excellent stadium and in front of so many supporters."
