The Final Countdown - Sunday off for Les

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Les Ferdinand will not be doing his usual Sunday spot in ITV's football coverage this week - he's otherwise engaged.

Les has been a fixture in the studio this season, giving expert views on a variety of Nationwide League games. With ITV also covering the Worthington Cup, the broadcasters have certainly got their man in the thick of the action.

Not that Les will be giving it much thought - he's put in for the day off.

"I think so!" laughed Les. "They've not called me in as yet, they've just said to me 'go and enjoy and get yourself the right result'."

Les is a contented figure these days, he signed a new two-year deal in the summer, is back among the goals and has shaken off the worst excesses of injury that blighted his first seasons at the Lane. He has also got one eye on life after playing with his television work.

"It's worked out well, it's been a good year. I've done a bit of TV worked and enjoyed that, but I've said all along that the football is more important. There is no competition between sitting on a chair commentating on the Nationwide and playing in a cup final - assuming that I'm playing!"

He does not disagree with the term 'going well' when describing his and the team's new dawn this season.

"They are the words, 'it's going well' at the minute, it's not finished, there is still a lot of football to be played and I hope there is still a lot of goals in me. I'm sure there is a lot of goals in me. I've just got to keep doing what I was doing in the early part of the season, unfortunately I had a break with the neck injury.

"I'm back now, feeling in good shape and raring to go."

Looking ahead to Sunday, Les warns of the perils of underestimating Blackburn and insists that the 'favourites' tag likely to be hooked on Spurs does not mean much on the day.

"I think people will look at this game and see that Blackburn haven't been playing well and haven't won too many game recently. We've done okay of late, we've won a few games so will probably go into the game as favourites.

"Like we always say, for cup competitions and games - especially a final - they'll raise their game like we'll raise our game and it'll be a totally different thing to what's going on in the league for them.

"To pick any one player they've got Andy Cole who is a fantastic goalscorer, Jansen is coming back. I know they've got a few suspensions but they are a good side and we saw that in the second half against us down at White Hart Lane.

"We'll be prepared for a tough fight."
