The Final Countdown - Gus's road to Cardiff
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Gus Poyet talks us through the road to Cardiff.
Thursday September 13
Spurs 2 Torquay United 0
Gus: "I missed this through suspension. At that time you know it's such a long way away but you want to start well. Now we are there. It was a professional job done. It was tough to start with because these teams come to White Hart Lane to give their all. If you don't score early it can be tough but we came through without too many problems. The only disappointment was Gary Doherty's broken leg."
Tuesday October 9
Tranmere Rovers 0 Spurs 4
Gus: "It was my first goal for the club and that was very important for me. The first half was tough, a few tackles flying in but after we scored it opened up and that gave me the chance to score. It was a good game for me and my career here. Everyone knew what had happened there to the manager when he was at Southampton so it was a good win. We did a good job."
Thursday November 29
Fulham 1 Spurs 2
Gus: "That was another game I missed because of my head injury at West Ham. That was difficult for me. Against Torquay I was at White Hart Lane, watching but at Fulham I was at home, trying to watch it. I remember when Simon scored the second goal we could relax and we were in the next round."
Tuesday December 11
Spurs 6 Bolton 0
Gus: "That was a superb performance. We played them just before in the Premiership and it was tough, close, we were 1-0 down and scored late to win. We were ready this time, changed things around like our runs forward, overlaps and that all helped to win the game."
Semi-final, first leg
Wednesday January 9
Chelsea 2 Spurs 1
Gus: "We missed Teddy up front and played a different shape. Chelsea played very compact and it is not easy to play them, especially when they are winning. We did okay. I remember playing in Europe with Chelsea and Real Zaragoza and every time we played away in the first leg, if you lose 2-1, it is an excellent result. The problem was with all the history, all the games between Chelsea and Tottenham, people just thought 'here we go again'. Les scored a very important goal. I thought it might turn it for us on the night but then Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink scored that goal from the free-kick. You can't do anything about things like that."
Semi-final, second leg
Wednesday January 23
Spurs 5 Chelsea 1
Gus: "That is the game, the one Tottenham supporters will think about for a very long time. Unbelievable. I remember especially the third goal, Teddy's goal, right at the start of the second half because so many things were going on at half-time. Would Zola come in? Would they start the same or change the shape? It is also very difficult to maintain that level when you play so well in the first half. But we were there, 3-0 straight away and all the way to the final."
Worthington Cup Final
Sunday February 24
Millennium Stadium, Cardiff
Gus on the final: "Blackburn have a good team. They are having a problem similar to us at the start of the season where they are playing quite well but not getting the points. That is disappointing for them. If they win the final it will give them a big lift for the rest of the season so we will have to be ready. And I know we will be ready. They have pace, players who can get behind us. We have to play our normal game but also be careful because they can break quickly."
