Chris Hughton believes that Dimitar Berbatov is making football fans really sit up and take notice. The Bulgarian striker has now netted 17 goals so far this season and his performances have attracted rave reviews as his impact on the English game increases.
Chris did not attempt to hide his admiration for the 26-year-old.
"Dimitar is a quality, classy footballer," said the first team coach. "Perhaps if people hadn't taken much notice of him before, they certainly did after the Bolton game where he played up front by himself for a large part of the game.
"Where his qualities are is the way he can manoeuvre the ball and his feel for it, plus his runs. He is somebody that does it at his own pace, he is not lightening quick, but when he runs with the ball he has got the ability to go past people.
"You see the times when he runs close to the touchline, he has such good awareness of the players around him that he is able to keep hold of it. He has certainly got better and better and stronger and stronger as the season has gone on.
"I think where we are fortunate with Berba is that he is not a young, raw player. He is one who has been around for a while with a lot of experience from playing in a tough league for a good number of seasons.
"We've got him at a good age, although it does take time to adapt to English football because it is a different game."
Chris added that is did not take him too long to come to the conclusion that Dimitar could well add a welcome dimension to our attacking options.
"The quality has always been there though, I remember his first few training sessions and you do get a feel for a player when he arrives and you see him first hand for the first time. My first thoughts were 'he is certainly a good footballer, now is a going to show that week to week?'. He has definitely got better as the season has gone on in that respect."
