Teddy targets next goal
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Teddy Sheringham described joining the 300 club as 'a lovely milestone' but has typically moved straight onto his next goal.
The skipper's header from Darren Anderton's corner made it 300 club goals in a fantastic career and was the icing on the cake of a fine 4-1 victory against Sunderland on Saturday.
You have to go back to January 1984 for Teddy's first goal - for Millwall at Bournemouth - and since then he's regularly hit the net for Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and, of course, ourselves to become only the second current player alongside Alan Shearer to make it to 300.
"It's a lovely milestone," reflected Teddy. "I didn't realise until a couple of weeks ago that I was anywhere near it.
"I remember the first. Millwall v Bournemouth away, drew 1-1, I scored the opener after about 11 minutes and I thought 'here we go, we'll have some of this'.
"I haven't really scored great goals, nice goals but not outrageous goals.
"For Spurs, the Chelsea goal in the Worthington Cup is up there and the Liverpool goal in the FA Cup but I suppose the most memorable one has to be the Champions League Final. It wasn't the sweetest struck but it hit the back of the net.
"To get to any milestones is lovely but it means nothing now - you go onto the next one, whatever it is."
Teddy added that it was 'a joy' to play in the second half as our passing game took over following Sunderland's impressive first half showing.
"The first half was very difficult, they made it tough, a hard-working team that came to close us down and get the bits off that.
"We were lucky to go in 2-1 up, 1-1 would have been fair, but we got a little break and we knew we had to do better in that second half.
"That's what we did, got the ball down, won the second ball and played from there.
"We dd well from there but you've got to compete in the first instance. If you don't do that you've no chance to get the ball down and I think the two halves showed the difference."
