Teddy Sheringham's programme notes v Leeds
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
This may surprise a few people but I’ve never been so optimistic about a Tottenham squad in all the time I’ve been here.
In the five years I was here before and now this second season since my return, this is the strongest squad I’ve ever been involved with at the Lane.
I know we’ve had three bad results and it’s going to take a lot of character and commitment to turn things around, but I’ve got every faith in the players at the club’s disposal.
We’ve had a decent start to the season and got ourselves into a good position in the league. Now we’ve got so many good players returning from injury, we are looking to push on from here.
We have recently welcomed back the likes of Darren Anderton, who everyone knows is capable of walking into any Premier League team in the country; Ledley King, who was our outstanding young prospect of last season and has just been called back into the England squad and Christian Ziege, who has been out for the last month or so.
Then there is Gus Poyet, who has played a couple of matches and is getting back to full fitness; Stevie Carr and Steffen Freund, both who have been out for so long but are back in the side and Les Ferdinand, Stephen Clemence and Tim Sherwood, who have been making their comebacks in the Reserves.
And there are also players like Tony Gardner, Mauricio Taricco and Neil Sullivan, who are hopefully close to returning to full training.
So we are all getting into place for a big push for the rest of the season. Add the above list of players to the ones that have done so well to get us into the position we are in at the moment and it bodes well for the remainder of the campaign.
There’s no doubt about it, we started the season well. We topped the table at one point and were fifth just before these last few matches, but even now we are only three points away from climbing back up into the front-runners again, so it’s not all doom and gloom even though we’ve had a bad spell.
I’m confident about the future and any supporter reading this should be optimistic too, so enjoy the game and let’s start winning again.
