Teddy Sheringham's programme notes v Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

We’ve had some great games against Chelsea over the past few years and I’m sure today’s will be another enthralling encounter.

Following our defeat of Blackburn a month ago, it was important we kept that momentum going and we did that with victory over Bolton in our last Premiership game here.

We played very well that day and controlled the game from start to finish. We could have been a few goals up early on, but we got the breakthrough and although we let them back into it, we finished the job strongly and in style.

Simon Davies scored one and Robbie Keane grabbed a couple and it is great to see Robbie on the goal trail again after his strike at Blackburn.

A special mention for Simon who is having an outstanding season, he’s growing in stature with every game he plays. The expectancy level from him now is so much higher than it was at the start of the campaign and I think he is enjoying that as well. He still wants to learn all the time and that is great from any player, let alone a youngster. He must be concentrating on his football because something is affecting his golf!

After beating Bolton we travelled up to Anfield with a lot of confidence but also with an air of caution because we knew how good Liverpool could be.

We had a special game plan to suck them into our web rather than to allow them to draw us in and hit us on the counter-attack as they can do. We thought it worked quite well really and restricted them to only two or three half chances, nothing clear cut, and I think we deserved at least a point from the game.

It wasn’t our most dynamic performance of the season but we achieved a lot of what we set out to do as a team and it almost brought reward.

Obviously we went a goal down but got back into it through Deano’s header and at that stage we thought we’d done enough to earn a share of the spoils. But a little bit of trickery from Michael Owen and all of a sudden we’re coming away with nothing and that was the disappointing aspect of it.

A word about the Tottenham Tribute Match against D.C. United, it was great to see all the old faces back at the Lane. From my point of view it was especially enjoyable to see Jürgen Klinsmann back and teaming up with him again was great. It seemed as if he’d never been away, he was still full of enthusiasm, full of running, he was a joy to play alongside. I wish he was still playing.

Enjoy the game.
