Teddy ready for management game

31 July 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Teddy Sheringham admits he never envisaged managing a team against Spurs - but it will become reality on Saturday.

Our legendary former striker and captain has kicked-off his managerial career at League Two side Stevenage and our Spurs XI take the short trip to the Lamex Stadium for a friendly tomorrow (August 1, 3pm).

Stevenage have played against two of his former clubs so far in pre-season - Millwall and Forest - and Teddy can't wait for Spurs to come to town.

"It will be a massive test for us," he said. "First and foremost, we all know Tottenham will be comfortable on the ball. I want us to try and play our game but at the same time, enforce the fact that we’re trying to stop Tottenham play as well.

"I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully the Tottenham supporters will come and watch it, enjoy their team playing and see how it is for us as well."

Ninth in our list of all-time top goalscorers and one of only 16 players to hit a century of goals in the club's 133-year history, Teddy scored 124 goals in 277 appearances in all competitions for us in two spells - 1992-1997 and then 2001-2003.

It was pointed out that it's now 23 years since he first joined us from Forest!

"Yes, it’s unbelievable. 23 years! That makes feel old!" he said. "I’m going to go out and join in training now to me feel younger again!

"I’m really enjoying this place, it’s a fantastic club to cut my teeth in football management, the  facilities are second to none and the lads are great.

"They all want to learn, you can tell by the way they are looking at me with eager anticipation every time I speak and I just hope my point is getting across. I want them to learn how I want the game to be played and they are taking it on board."

Tickets for the Stevenage game are available via the stadium until 5pm this evening or fans can pay on the day.

Stevenage would also love all Spurs fans not making the trip to Old Trafford to watch Teddy take his management seat for the League Two opener against Notts County at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday week (August 8, 3pm).
