Team news: Perry back?

English Barclays Premiership

Chris Perry could make a shock return against Charlton on Saturday.

There were fears that the ever-consistent centre-back could be out for weeks with a broken toe.

However, Perry has returned to full training this week and is in the squad to travel to The Valley. Boss George Graham must decide whether or not to renew his partnership with Sol Campbell or hand Ramon Vega - impressive as a substitute against West Ham - his chance.

Perry's return would be a timely boost with Luke Young - his replacement against West Ham - suffering a foot injury. Defensive cover is scarce with youngsters Ledley King (foot) and Anthony Gardner (thigh) still on their way back.

Generally though the news on the injury front is good. Chris Armstrong, Willem Korsten and out-of-favour Jose Dominguez all returned to action in a private friendly this week while Young and Darren Anderton (groin) are progressing well.

Graham revealed: "Chris Perry has played and is back in the squad for Charlton. Luke Young's injury is not as bad as we first thought and Darren Anderton is looking good as well.

"There are good things happening behind the scenes and it is good to see players like Chris Perry determined to get off the bench and back in the action again. That is unusual for Tottenham but underlines the spirit here. It's nice to see."

Charlton are expected to stick with the starting line-up that forced a 2-2 draw at Derby last time out.

That means Kevin Lisbie remains on the bench despite a fine display as substitute and he could be joined by fit-again Clive Mendonca, who is back in reserve team action.
