Gus Poyet has a chance of lining up against West Ham on Saturday and will undergo a late fitness test tomorrow morning.
The midfielder has been named in the squad for Upton Park after limping out of Monday's draw against Fulham with an ankle injury.
Boss Glenn Hoddle revealed this afternoon: "Gus has trained and we're hoping there won't be a reaction. It's good news he's got a chance. We'll test him in the morning."
Robbie Keane is making progress from a knee injury but remains out this weekend.
He joins Chris Perry, Christian Ziege, Steffen Iversen, Anthony Gardner and Jamie Redknapp on the sidelines.
Glenn added: "Robbie is doing some hard running and he'll soon do some different types of running and that will be the real test for him.
"Chris has had scans and has a slight neck problem which specialists has said will need four weeks rest. It could have caused a lot of problems if he continued to train, so that was a blow.
"Steffen Iversen is on a rehab course and goes back to a specialist on Monday. Anthony Gardner has still got a hamstring and we knew at the time it would be a difficult one to get over when he did it at Chelsea, it's improving but not quickly enough."
The positive news is on Christian Ziege and Glenn was delighted to report that he's in line to play against this season after his nightmare thigh injury.
"Christian's come back and had a few sessions and he is well and truly on his way back," beamed Glenn. "We just need to nurse him through the next week. It's great news because it was a horrendous injury."
