Taylor's tales

Peter Taylor has told hotspur how he took a pay cut to follow his dream and play for Spurs.

Peter Taylor took a pay cut to follow his dream and play for Spurs.

The former England winger, later to take charge of the national side on a caretaker basis, joined us back in 1976.

Yet he possessed such talent that he had made his England debut while with Crystal Palace in the old Third Division.

And, as he admits in the latest issue of hotspur, joining Spurs was a day to remember.

He reveals: "I was so desperate to sign for Spurs I took £10-a-week pay cut - that's what it should be like.

"It was an amazing situation to be playing for the club that I'd supported all my life.

"We played terrific football from front to back, always passing it round the team, and scored lots of goals."

And the current Wycombe boss can only see good days ahead for Spurs under Harry Redknapp.

He says: "Now there's a man who should have been given the England role."

Catch up with 'Spud' in the February issue of hotspur, our stylishly re-vamped official magazine that's proving a bit hit with Spurs fans.
