Tano tips Postie to deliver

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Mauricio Taricco feels that Helder Postiga possesses the strength of character to make a success of his career in England.

It was a challenging first season for the 21-year-old who joined from Porto last June. A change of management not long into the season and a stuttering league campaign for the team saw to it that it was not the ideal environment for a young overseas player to make an impression.

The form of tried and tested Premiership performers Robbie Keane, Fredi Kanoute and Jermain Defoe made it even harder for Helder to make a mark in his first season and Mauricio suspects it made for a frustrating period for the man who helped de-rail England's Euro 2004 prospects.

"I would imagine so as he wasn't involved much towards the end of the season," said the full-back who, along with Gus Poyet, initially acted as something of an interpreter for the striker. "He had a couple of small injuries and it is difficult."

Mauricio knows the pitfalls of an overseas switch at an early age as he was also just 21 when he joined Ipswich Town from Argentinos Juniors.

"I was in his shoes when I joined Ipswich and it is not easy. You have to be strong, keep going, keep working and if you believe you can do it then you can.

"It does get easier after the first season as long as you believe it will and you want to do it. If you have the will to keep going, keep fighting and you feel you are good enough it gets easier.

"I think he is a strong character. When I went through it, I never doubted anything and never thought about going back. That is what I did and it worked out alright for me. Some others might get the opportunity to go back and take it. It is about personalities and options."
