Chelsea is next on the fixture list for director of football David Pleat with his regular preview of forthcoming games.
CHELSEA at Stamford Bridge has always proved a difficult game - that's an understatement.
They are buzzing at the moment. I suppose their dilemma is do they bring Hasselbaink back or leave Zola playing in that lovely space behind Gudjohnsen. What we do know is that the other night against Leeds the midfield kept at it all the time, despite going behind, Lampard had an exceptional game and Jody Morris also played as a good anchor.
Chelsea have three wingers, Gronkjaer, Zenden, a talented player who likes to go at people and Stanic, who I believe is injured at the moment.
Ranieri deserves a lot of credit and he has worked hard, almost anonymously in his own way, in not an easy job at a very high-profile club.
They have spent quite heavily although Ranieri has given youth its chance of late and the progress of striker Carlton Cole will give them heart. Other young players in the last couple of seasons haven't come through because of the excess of foreign players.
The first goal is always important at Stamford Bridge. I think we defended very well against Newcastle, restricted what is an offensive side to very few chances but obviously at the other end the loss of Robbie Keane was a blow. Teddy Sheringham was also very unlucky at times when he knocked clever balls off and people couldn't quite get to the pitch or found it difficult to control an effort on goal.
To lose so late was a blow for everyone but let's hope we can give Chelsea a very good game and get back on the winning track again.
