Talking Baggies

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

West Brom are a club with a great reputation - particularly in the fifties, when they were a fine Cup side with the likes of Ronnie Allen, Bobby Robson and Maurice Setters in their ranks.

Birmingham and Aston Villa were also very good Cup sides when the FA Cup was considered by all to be a major competition and a worthy one to win - even without European qualification.

A particularly warm welcome to Frank Burrows, a very nice guy who has clocked up his miles in football and is popular with all in the game for his work at the likes of Portsmouth, Swindon, West Ham, Cardiff and now West Brom.

Frank had an illness last year and the club stood by him. He came back and helped Gary Megson perform a superb second half of the season, which resulted in promotion.

Brendon Batson is also enjoying his new role sitting on the other side of the fence having been such a successful PFA executive.

Secretary John Evans is one I have a personal friendship with - he was my second secretary as a very young manager at Nuneaton.

No-one was more delighted than me when he got the job at West Brom and he has been a trusted servant of them for some years following in the footsteps of the late, great Alan Everriss, who was a much admired administrator of years ago - similar to the likes of Ken Friar, Les Olive and Peter Robinson of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool respectively.

The game this Sunday is bound to be interesting. West Brom play with three centre-backs and Balis and Clement as raiding wing-backs. Two weeks ago I watched them play Manchester City on a wet day at the Hawthorns and City eventually and deservedly came out on top.

The threat of Roberts up front was something Manchester City couldn't ignore and when he gets the ball and runs forward he can be a major threat. Obviously, at the moment, Lee Hughes isn't enjoying the same success he enjoyed in his previous spell there.

In midfield they are now settled with McInnes as the holding player. Koumas has now been told by Gary Megson to ally his skill to a work rate and has already played well against Tottenham for Tranmere Rovers in a Cup tie that our supporters will remember.

The other midfield player is Andy Johnson, who is having a resurgence at West Brom, having come from Norwich via Nottingham Forest.

West Brom are a tough side, ably led by Darren Moore, the strong centre half who has worked his way up through Doncaster and Torquay and is a major leader.

They have found difficulty in scoring goals and that is not surprising unless they can produce a prolific scorer from within their club. They will work within their resources, they have a new young chairman and solid support.

They also have good support in the media with the likes of first class radio presenter Adrian Chiles, who understands the game, and Frank Skinner who may not understand the game - but it doesn't matter, as he is a comedian.
