Alex Inglethorpe was delighted with our Academy side's display and pre-season friendly victory against Bellinzona at a training camp in Switzerland.
Bellinzona only just missed out on a place in the Swiss Super League when they lost a two-legged play-off against FC Aarau but our Under-18s capped a good week’s work with a 4-2 victory.
Coach Alex reported: “It was essentially a training camp to both monitor the players and try to give the First Years a good introduction to full-time football.
“At the end of the week we played Bellinzona, obviously a tough test for us, not least physically.
“We split the game into four, making substitutions after 25 minutes and then 65 minutes in the second half. We went 1-0 up via a counter-attack finished by Ryan Mason and doubled the lead when Dean Parrott scored from close range after a corner.
“We made a lot of changes and Bellinzona came back into it, levelling at 2-2 before finishing strongly again and goals from Andros Townsend and a triallist called Nazim Ben Kalifa made it 4-2 - a great start to pre-season.”
