Our highly regarded under-17 side cemented their place in the FA Premier Academy League play-off quarter-finals on Saturday with a late show to defeat Southampton at Spurs Lodge.
It’s now West Ham in the last eight at Chadwell Heath and a stern test for the promising crop of youngsters who have impressed so much during the course of this campaign.
Our boys finished top of their four-team pool, having earlier beaten Bristol City 4-0 and shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Charlton. The quarter-final stage is regionalised but, should we pass the Hammers test, it becomes a national affair.
Ron Henry, grandson of the double-winner of the same name, opened the scoring on Saturday in the 83<sup>rd</sup> minute and Dean Marney sealed victory and the trip east in the final minute.
An interested and impressed onlooker was reserve boss Theo Foley.
"I saw the under-17s on Saturday morning and it was terrific to see them doing so well, there is some very good players in there and they’ve come into the reserve team and done very well — it’ll be nice if they can go all the way."
