Swansea U18s v Spurs - Kieran's preview

05 February 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Kieran McKenna is looking for our Under-18s to build on their performance in last Saturday’s draw at Leicester when they take on Swansea City this weekend.

Our youngsters set off for south Wales on Friday afternoon ahead of our latest Barclays Under-18 Premier League test at the Swans’ Landore Training Ground, kick-off 11am on Saturday.

With Japhet Tanganga, Jaden Brown and Samuel Shashoua away on international duty with England Under-17s – all three of them started for the Young Lions against Portugal in the Algarve today (Friday, February 5) with further matches to come against Germany and the Netherlands – our Under-18s Coach Kieran wants the players who take to the field for us to continue their good work over the last week with the aim of producing another good performance against the Swans.

“With the league format, we don’t tend to have too many overnight stays for the Under-18s and Swansea is a place where we haven’t had many youth team fixtures in recent times, so it’s a game we’re looking forward to,” he said.

“We had a good technical match with Swansea at our Training Centre earlier in the season and obviously we don’t know what sort of challenge they’ll present this weekend, but it’ll be up to the players to adapt and hopefully make it a successful trip.

“We’ve got some boys away with England so, as usual, the team will change and hopefully those who go out and play for us will put on a good performance.

“The focus this week has been on building on the Leicester game. It was a tough, gritty performance last weekend where we showed a lot of character and some quality at times, but this week we’ll be looking for the same aspects as well as looking to create more chances, dominate the ball a bit more and build on what were some good foundations last week.”

We’ll have updates from the game on Twitter @SpursOfficial at half- and full-time around our coverage of the Premier League match against Watford at White Hart Lane.
