Sunderland U18s v Spurs - Kieran's preview
11 March 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Kieran McKenna has called for our Under-18s players to try to match up to whatever is thrown at them when they come up against an unfamiliar opponent in Sunderland on Saturday morning (March 12).
Our youngsters make the long trip north for our first Barclays Under-18 Premier League meeting with the Black Cats in three years, looking to respond after last week’s 3-1 defeat at Leicester City.
Under-18s Coach Kieran says the need to adapt to facing a new set of players at Sunderland’s Academy of Light facility represents a good test and he’s once again keen to see some bright performances from the boys.
“We last played Sunderland away about three years ago so it’s been a while now,” he said. “They’re a good side at this level but we don’t know too much about the players we’ll face this weekend – that’s probably one of the attractions of the game.
“We’re travelling up to play a side we don’t usually meet and the players will have to adapt quickly and try to take control of the game.
“We haven’t had too many long trips involving an overnight stay in the league this year but there’s a good spirit within the travelling group and hopefully the boys can transmit that spirit and character onto the pitch in what should be a difficult game.”
Kick-off on Saturday is at 11am. Follow us on Twitter @SpursOfficial to keep up to date.
