Sunderland 1-2 Spurs - Andre's verdict

07 December 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

Andre Villas-Boas hailed the team’s performance after our 2-1 win at Sunderland on Saturday.

Adam Johnson opened the scoring against the run of play at the Stadium of Light but Paulinho’s quick response just before half-time and an own goal from John O’Shea turned it around.

It could have been more as Jermain Defoe struck the woodwork twice and fired just wide, Paulinho headed just wide and both Lewis Holtby and Andros Townsend were denied by Vito Mannone.

It was our second away win in four days after coming from behind at Fulham on Wednesday night.

“It was a great performance by the team,” said Andre.

“We didn’t deserve to go 1-0 down, we were excellent, created a lot and the win was the only deserved result. It was just a pity it wasn’t by more.

“We’ve come from behind in two away fixtures in a row and it’s been a very important week for us, especially bearing in mind the setback at City.

“That (recovery from City) started at Tromso, then United and now these two wins in away fixtures, so it’s a great start in December for us.

“Now we play Liverpool and Southampton and we can continue to build on this momentum and try to get into that top four.”
