Sully seeks balance

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Neil Sullivan says it’s all about a balancing act at the moment.

While we have been magnificent defensively in recent matches — five successive clean sheets is testament to that — we have failed to score in our last four matches.

Goalkeeper Sullivan, who made the save of the match to keep out Shaun Bartlett in Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Charlton, typically praised the rest the of the team for another clean sheet but was quick to point out that we need to improve at the other end of the pitch.

He said: "You have to praise the whole team for the defensive record.

"When you defend you have to start from the front and, to be fair, everyone has been working hard to stop the goals going in — now it’s a case of getting it right at the other end.

"It’s a fine balance. We were scoring plenty of goals earlier on in the league but unfortunately we were letting them in at the other end.

"Now it seems to have turned full circle and we’re not letting too many goals in but not scoring too many either.

"We have to try and get that balance of keeping clean sheets but also have something going forward and scoring goals to win games, not draw them."

Scottish international Sullivan will now look to build on that defensive record in the massive FA Cup tie against Charlton on Wednesday night. He expects a similar match to Saturday’s Premiership draw.

"It will be a tight game," he added. "Both sides were feeling each other out on Saturday and it was a tough, tight game. It will pretty much the same personnel but hopefully we’ll get a goal or two. The FA Cup games are always big games, not matter who you draw.

"We’ll look forward to Stockport at home if we get through but we’ve a tough game to think about yet.

"All these games are little special, everyone wants to be involved and everyone wants to get to the final. But we have to get past Charlton first."
